Backstage: NYMF-o-Mania
Cooper and Fabal's director for this six-performance run is Igor Goldin, who staged last season's acclaimed Off-Broadway production of "Yank!" (a show that played NYMF in 2005), and the cast includes Farah Alvin, a Drama Desk nominee for "The Marvelous Wonderettes." "What we ultimately want is another production," says Fabal, "to find a home for this show."

DIVA TALK: Chats with NYMF's Farah Alvin
J. Sebastian Fabal's music and lyrics cross so many genres it's hard to believe they're all written by the same person. Hip Hop, Latin Pop, Jazz, Anthemic Musical Theater, Contemporary Classical - and yet all in service of the story telling. And, Sara Cooper's characters are complex and real and fit into a really imaginative, gritty narrative. These two are going to go somewhere, so don't miss this chance to see them on the ground floor (or the tenth floor as the case may be).

Synopsis

When 16-year-old Victor Alvarez commits murder in Miami, he is thrown into the Tenth Floor, the juvenile floor of the Miami-Dade Correctional Facility. Fueled by a contemporary score with touches of rock and salsa, The Tenth Floor follows Victor as he tries to escape prison and the harsh realities of his home life through fantasy. Victor must learn to deal with both the reality of his present and the very real ramifications of his past, or else end up just another ruined kid, another passing piece of the Tenth Floor.
